Fusionman

Fusionman Yves Rossy, successfully crossed the English Channel today -- the first to do so in a solo flight with jet-propelled wing. Rossy was dropped from a plane at 8,200 feet and flew 22-miles in under 10 minutes from Calais to Dover. When asked by National Geographic's Kathryn Liptrott if he was worried about risk, Rossy replied, "I'm not worried about risk, I manage risk." If you're looking to pick up one of these jet powered carbon-fiber wings for your own unspeakable mischief, expect to pay around the $190,000 mark.

Yes we can...

Japan Planning its own Space Ladder

Japan is announcing plans to spend $7.3 billion on its own lift to whisk passengers (and cargo) 22,000 miles aloft on composite cables. It's the cables that are the problem, as they need to be 180 times stronger than steel and obviously much, much lighter. The Japanese are focusing on carbon nanotubes, and while they will need to be engineered four times stronger than current stock before they're up to the task, their highly conductive nature means they can not only support the lift vehicle but also power it. Useful, that, because the ride up could take a couple of days or even weeks, and astronauts will need some way to recharge their PMPs...More HERE.

Palin x Planned Parenthood

Sarah Palin opposes abortion, even in cases of rape and incest. As she said in a gubernatorial debate nearly two years ago, even if her own daughter were a rape victim, she - not the daughter, interestingly, but she - would ''choose life.''

Now there's an e-mail making the rounds that urges people to make a gift donation to Planned Parenthood in Palin's name.

What makes it even better, the e-mail says, is that for every donation made in her name, Planned Parenthood sends Palin a card thanking her....

Star Wars Kid

For you cave dwellers,

"Star Wars Kid" is an Internet phenomenon which started when a fourteen-year-old Quebecois high school student filmed himself wielding a golf ball retriever like a lightsaber in a similar fashion to that of Darth Maul. The video was filmed at his high school studio, and the tape left in a basement. This video clip was found by some of his classmates and shared online through a peer-to-peer filesharing client. The student was taunted and criticized by his peers, eventually leading to a lawsuit. The video was one of the most popular videos on the Internet in 2003, and as of 2007, had been viewed almost 1 billion times.

SIGG

Approaching its 100 year anniversary, SIGG has its sights set on growing the brand outside of Europe. In 2005, SIGG launched a USA subsidiary based in Stamford, CT. "This brand has tremendous history and for generations has been the must-have water bottle for Europeans," stated Steve Wasik, SIGG USA President. "Americans are now discovering that using a high quality, reusable bottle like SIGG makes great sense – both financially and environmentally."

In June 2006, Backpacker magazine conducted a relentless field test of leading water bottles brands. With the services of a 100 pound cannon packed with golf balls, they were able to destroy all of the targeted bottles – except one. Following the bottle barrage, they dubbed SIGG "The World's Toughest Water Bottle."
